Family history: Son of George and Janet Robertson, 23 Rattray Street, Grangepans, Bo’ness. He had an older sister, Christina, and an older brother, James, who was serving with the Royal Engineers. Prior to enlisting, George was employed by R. Mickel and Co., Victoria Sawmills, Bridgeness. He enlisted in March 1917 joining the 10th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish) Rifles.

The action leading to his death

On the 25 August 1917, an attempt was made by two companies of the 9th Black Watch to capture Gallipoli Farm, located on Hill 35 on Frezenberg Ridge. While this action was taking place, the 10th Cameronians engaged Beck House and Iberian Farm with rifle and Lewis gun fire. ‘C’ and ‘D’ Company’s sent forward a patrol in an attempt to reach Iberian Farm but found it strongly defended. George was killed during this action.
